whichpermit.com is an independent guide to permit-to-work systems. It is run by Rustem Khusnutdinov, an HSE engineer working on permit-to-work systems. This page describes what the site records about a visit.

What the site does not do

The site has no accounts, no sign-up, no forms and no comment fields. Nothing is asked of a visitor and nothing is submitted: there is no name, no e-mail address, no company and no phone number to collect, because there is nowhere to enter them.

What is recorded

Web analytics. The site uses Yandex.Metrica to count visits and to see which pages are read. Metrica sets its own cookies and records:

  • the pages opened and the order they were opened in;
  • the approximate location derived from the network address — country and city, not a street;
  • the browser, the operating system, the screen size and the language settings;
  • the address of the page a visitor arrived from, if there was one.

Session recording (Webvisor). Metrica also records the movement of the pointer, scrolling and clicks on a page, and replays them as an anonymous session. Text is not typed anywhere on this site, so nothing typed can be recorded.

Server logs. The web server keeps standard access records: the network address, the time, the address requested and the browser identification string. These are used to diagnose faults and to see whether the site is reachable from a given country.

Why it is recorded

To see which permit topics are actually read, in which countries, and in which language — and to find pages that load slowly or are unreachable from Iran, the Gulf, Mexico or China. The data is not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not used to build profiles of individuals.

Where the data sits

The site is hosted on a server in the Russian Federation. Yandex.Metrica processes the analytics data on its own infrastructure under its own terms; the site owner sees aggregated reports, not identified individuals. Because readers are in Iran, the Gulf states, Mexico and China, this means data about a visit crosses borders — that is stated here plainly rather than hidden.

How to stop it

  • Yandex publishes a browser add-on that switches Metrica off on every site that uses it. Search for the Yandex.Metrica opt-out add-on in the help pages of Yandex.Metrica.
  • Blocking cookies for this site, or using a tracker-blocking extension, stops the analytics from loading. The site itself works without them: nothing on these pages depends on analytics.
  • Private or incognito browsing prevents cookies from persisting between visits.

Standards named on this site

Standards and regulations described here — NFPA, OSHA, ISO, GB, NOM and others — belong to their publishers. This site describes their requirements and claims no affiliation, endorsement or authority to interpret them on a publisher’s behalf.

Changes and contact

This page is updated when what the site records changes; the date above shows the last revision. Questions about what is recorded, or a request to have server-log records concerning a specific visit removed, can be sent through ptwhub.com — the product site run by the same author.
